Dil Mohallay Ki Haveli Episode 11: Review
Dil Mohallay Ki Haveli
Review 11th
Hai yahan tanha akeli, dil mohallay ki haveli
A writer writes not because he is educated but because he is driven by the need to communicate. Behind the need to communicate is the need to share. Behind the need to share is the need to be understood. So finally aaj meny Amna Mufti k play k leay qalam utha he lia before going into my analysis about Amna Mufti and her play let me share what my friends says about her style and write ups.
Reema Ali Syed says “In my views..She is Pakistan`s Shakespeare (though this is kind of injustice with a writer in terms of comparing her work..But in terms of the way Shakespeare`s tragedies we all (who have read him) have found..dark, classy and captivating …This is exactly we can feel or see in Amna`s work..Amna Mufti`s writings (novels, short stories or now drama) are so mature, her way of dealing with the characters do not create “mess” it is instead of creating “vibes” which reader/viewer not only enjoy but at the same time feel the depth of the story..Pain of the characters..The themes she selects are very “ours” one can`t find them so “foreign”, she treats her stories and characters with true cultural, social values… Rational execution not so melodramatic…very real, sensible, mature and sensitive way of writings…What do I like the most about her writings is she has a ability to deliver so meaning full things with small, tiny lines, she does not need to give a speech on..!!”
Hasan Umar says “What I like about Amna Mufti’s writing is her maturity, the themes she chooses and the language she uses in her writings. Though I haven’t read much of her work but whatever I have read is definitely a masterpiece be it Aakhri Zamana, Jurrat-e-Rindana, Chaand Pokhar Tak Nahi Pohncha, Ulloo Baraye Farokht Nahi or others. What I like most is that themes of her writings are from our daily lives and one can closely associate himself/herself with the characters of the stories. I like the way she writes about our cultural and social values. What differs her from other writers is selection of pure language writing Urdu Literature which is not difficult to digest as many readers find it hard to understand pure literature but while reading Amna Mufti’s writings you can easily understand it. She doesn’t choose difficult words in her writings and that is what makes a reader comfortable.”
Sobia Saleem says “Amna Mufti is not only a writer she is a “story teller”…. she doesn’t create utopias… you will not find “Mr.Darcy” “Miss Elizabeth”… a match making romance ….. You will not find “one man show”…. it is real, it is deep, it is depressive and it is dejected indeed. The story is not a romance of one character… every character is there with each and every detail. Every character “evolves”. Every character contributes with full strength. She doesn’t create “white” or “black” characters….she tells us that most of the characters in our society are “GREY”. Her work is not a mere form of imagination but it is an open book of reality that reader reads, feels and then he lives with it for so many days even after finishing the book. You will not get a romantic ,warm feeling but the sharp end of reality make u awake, makes you even feel that you have so many “flaws” inside your own self. So, it is not like an escape from reality… not a utopia…it is like facing your own self, your own society in a mirror. Her emotions are not weak whether they are of love or hatred. The love rules the “logic”… the hatred rules the compassion.”
When we speak of a play as a comedy we generally mean a play which has a pleasant atmosphere and a happy ending. It may not actually make us laugh, but it must at least be amusing or entertaining. Black comedy or Dark comedy is so-called because of an element of cynicism and bitterness in it. Dil Mohallay Ki Haveli is a black comedy because of its hidden bitterness in it. It is a play rapped with mysteries and suspense, very strong and catchy plot, extremely powerful characters and apparently slow pace. I found Amna Mufti hard to get at first but once you get it you would love to read/watch it again and again. Language of Amna Mufti is really very tough, she talks about havelees and what makes them so mysterious. Servants play very important role in her writings, to portray reality sometimes she is so much bitter that you find hard to digest. She speaks via symbolism and body language; her characters do not allow you to forget them easily. She blends Punjabi with Urdu so beautifully that I fell in love with Punjabi language. If Jahez and Ullu Baraey Farokht Nahi are said to be her tragedies, Dil Mohallay Ki Haveli is for sure a dark comedy that has a magic in it. I do believe she is well aware of human psychology and the emotions she demonstrates in her paper are not merely words; they are alive within us, perfect human picture! She mocks so beautifully that one feels guilty to have such bad human traits in him/her. She shows mirror to society flawlessly and usually her write ups are social satire. Her romance is very natural and not of fairy tales thus committed to perfection
Let us start with episode eleven, we see that guy (missing name) gives Fahim tablets for relaxing muscles and Fahim mocks “din raat k is tasalsul mein insaan kitna bemaya hai.. In sab ko bhi asaabi sukoon ki golyan dy do” and “yeh koi dhanda thorha he hai jo main krta hun”, I found Sarmad Khoosat excellent excellent excellent J If he is said to be choosy in doing projects, he is justified. It is obvious that he is the only sane guy in this insane haveli. Bravo! I wonder what had happened to his wife, till now we have clues that she must be dead because of Amma Jaan’s lame objections and hardheartedness but still I want to know the whole story. I was so happy to see he saved Mehru and is determined to protect her now. I laughed out loud at his dialogue “yeh pagal tumhary Saad sy kahin zeada zimedar hai”
true that.

Every character keeps depth in it, be it land lady or Jammu. Amma Jaan is so engrossed in Jammu’s fake introduction that she is ready to object her old maid Wazeeran, her own sons and her bahu too. Blood has no value here, not in my society too. Question of the day is that who is “Ismat’s khandaan”? jo agar is haveli k raaz jaan jaey tou khoob hansengy. Preview of next episode has revealed two new women characters jo yaqeenan Ismat k khandaan sy taluq rakhti hongi.. Poor guess!
Azeem Myan bhi aik mystery thy jo k ab nhe rahay
Things are getting clear that Azeem sahib is Amma Jaan’s sbsy barha beta who did not study and wishes to have all control of Amma Jaan’s property. Mehnat sy jee churata hai aur nazar saari jaedaad py.. All clear! Sense of inferior complex is also there, Azeem is jealous of Saad, who was Amma Jaan’s chaheeta beta. This episode showed that Azeem succeeded in his plans and Amma Jaan literally throws Mehru and Saad out of Haveli. Waoww to Amma Jaan’s aqal!

Safia is kind of seedhi sadhi bahu and obedient wife. She is not aware of her husband’s cunning plans and is basically not a bad human being. Jammu takes sample of key on soap, I’m just waiting when he cheats Amma Jaan and mystery reveals. If I may guess, I’ve a strong feeling that Mehru has some connection with the girl jiski tasweer dekh k Amma Jaan roti hein. She does not know that the pillow she is having with her all the time as her mother’s (who was actually maid of this haveli) distinctive sign keeps expensive jewellery in it (and Jammu is after that). Bechari took all blame of chori on her own shoulders to get rid of all that mess. Saad sahib is back to his home again and I really wish this time he takes care of his health, surely going to miss Mehru. Rabia is missing haveli’s traditions and is not feeling well here in city. Allow me to say that phone call scene was too short and sounded somewhat bogus. It could have been done better

Samina Ahmed, Nadia Afgan, Sami Khan, Noor ul Hassan, Yumna Zaidi, girl playing Rabia’s role and guy playing Jammu’s character everybody has played outstanding performance. Confusing point is that kia Saad aur that guy who injects Fahim are brothers and adopted by Amma Jaan? I felt so while watching episode tenth. Please somebody make me clear.
Well, a token of thanks to DMKH team including performers, technical staff and director for giving this outstanding play and something to ponder upon seriously. Camera angles of this play are just surprising and appealing… Loving it! Before watching this play I had a belief that 80% credit of any play goes to writers because they are the ones who create what producers and directors need but after watching this, I had to change my opinion and I must confess that performers and direction is as much chief as script. Each dialogue is superb but here are some of my favourites from tonight’s episode:
Tum sy kis pagal ny kaha main pagal hun?
Aik bazari zindagi bhi ou guzar rha hun bazari chaeay ka kia..
Amma Jaan ko sirf aik pagal qabu kr skta hai!
Chorni o Chorni yeh tou btao Chorni!! Chor sy katti kyun ki?
Preview of next episode is so thrilling and reveals Azeem’s truth to Amman Jaan. I’m definitely waiting for next episode and this is official my favourite play on TV right now. I hope I am not disappointed!

Fawad Khan with His Ladies
Without wonder and insight, acting is just a business. With it, it becomes creation.
~ Bette Davis
~ Bette Davis
You must be thinking what I am up to this time
well this effort is solely for you guys
Fawad Khan’s crazy fans must be surprised to know about his acting career on small screen. People spent their whole lives in bringing themselves upright as an actor but this velvety chocolate hero, Fawad khan won the series wholly. Here I’m going to rate him with his ladies throughout his small screen career
and I want you guys to rate him as each character he played till now.

From being a novice to nowadays a perfect actor, Fawad had indeed a lovely journey. Jutt and Bond (2000-Indus Tv) was his first play on small screen Ahmed Butt and Fawad played character of Bond very well. I rate him 9 out of 10.

Dil De Ke Jayengy (2008-Geo Tv) was an average play where Fawad played role of Arsalan and cast included Saba Qamar, Sunita Marshal, Vaneeza and so on. I would rate him as 6 out of 10.

Akbari Asghari (2011-Hum Tv) was an interesting platform of different cultures and Fawad played role of Asghar intensely. Sanam Baloch as Akbari took my heart straight away and I loved the couple. A Big round of applause! I rate Fawad Khan 10 out of 10 here

Mann Ke Moti Episode 5: Review
Mann Ke Moti
Review 5th
There is a gleaming brainpower and strategic counter-play in Mann Ke Moti that will certainly benefit you with some tasteful satire dotted all over. To my greatest surprise its ironies are not portrayed in an overly melodramatic style.
Episode five started with Nasreen articulating Fariha to get out of this house for she does not wants to take her responsibility anymore and is afraid of any would-be disaster (out of nowhere yeh bdgumanyan kyun paalti hein Nasreen sahiba I failed to get). Can anybody please go and tell her to at least ponder upon her terrible behavior having “tasbeeh” in her hands all the time. Fariha as expected got shocked and tried her best to manage with the situation by taking all the responsibility of her children and her in laws but left unsuccessful! We also came to know about Fariha’s background that she only has a Mamu in the name of family but he was also not in condition to support her financially or socially thus left her on saasu Maa’s rehm o karam.
Nasreen used cheap ways to get Fariha out of her house and at last literally dhakky maar k ghar sy nikaal dia. That was certainly most heart wrenching scene of Mann Ke Moti till now. Thank God Maulvi Sahab came as her benefactor and helped in resolving the matter in positive way. Moving on, I hated Zara for her extreme selfish behavior with innocent children and Fariha. The girl playing Zara’s role really deserve a pat on shoulder..Going really strong! Maham on the other hand is the character being portrayed so adequately and keeps constructive energy around her always supporting the righteous and has tendency to go against evil, this is what makes her very much affirmative.
Speaking of kids, Zuhab is the heart of this serial I must say again. The way they have executed their characters and the chemistry they’ve been shown is just superb! Deep down his heart Zuhab knows that he is the only male left in family now and he has to take bold steps to save his family no matter how much hurdles comes in between. Now that daadi has revealed her another color they are very much insecure about their future and about their mother as well.

Farhan Sahab has made the proposal on his condition that Fariha won’t be allowed to take her children with her and that’s what shocked Fariha. After watching preview of episode six we are left with the question that will she be able to make her children realize that she has taken right decision of marrying Farhan Sahab? Will kids accept it and how?

Mann Ke Moti Episode 4: Review
Mann Ke Moti
Review 4th
Pathar Ky Takeay Pr Soeay Kis Ky Mann Ke Moti..
This is simply one remarkable line from the lyrics of serial, Mann Ke Moti. And I’ve got to say that I’m surprised at how subtly but clearly things are told. Episode four started with van driver’s demand of monthly fee and we saw that daadi jaan refuses to allow them for van anymore. This was all about having all those never-expected nightmares that family is going through. Sharafat Sahab apni sharafat dikhany ajaty hein just like many other Sharafat Khans’ in our society who do not bother to understand others’ pains and are always ready to kill them with their negative intentions and unkind behavior and I’ve no doubts over the fact that these kind of people are slaves of money forgetting the lessons of humanity they have been taught by their elders in their life.
“Jis muashry mein insaanon ki koi qeemat nhe hoti wahan bhook tehzeeb k adaab bhula deti hai” goes for this serial.. Nasreen puts all blame of their miseries on Fariha. She even accuses her of not giving her son “Aulaad e Nareena” earlier so that there would have been no chance for more kids. Disgusting typical thinking of many of us! Daadi jaan also banned kids’ tuition and I was just wondering why Zara and Maham can’t teach kids when they themselves are studying higher studies than of kids. Good way to save their money and keep peaceful environment at home
Nasreen allows Fariha to teach Quran at Maulvi Sahab’s home and I was happy to see that since Fariha wished to do so. This old lady is so much frustrated of poverty and distress that she has forgot boundaries of humanity and kindness. It is a matter of laughing that having tasbeeh and Quran all the time in her hands and on her lips, she bans munni’s powder milk brutally and finds nothing positive in her bahu’s lifestyle. She also transfers kids from private school to a government school for the sake of saving money and expenses, forgetting the fact that these kids are her own blood, thus, reminds me of saying “water is thicker than blood” these days. What an ironical situation was that when she gives money to Zara for her studies after doing injustice with kids, Maham tries to make her realize of her wrong decisions but this is Nasreen..Particular saasu maa!

Fariha’s character is the one making me sad in this selective situation. I was just thinking where is her family? Why can’t they help her.. But since we’ve no update of her family background, we’ve to carry on with what we’ve been told. She misses her husband on every step be it teaching Quran or knotting tie of Guddu. She knows the ultimate reality that she has to perform the role of single mother now and is pleased with her kids’ co-operative kind of behavior. “Warna yeh dunya hamein kha jaegi” was the dialogue of Fariha that hooked me to the scene for a long time! Kifayat Rodani is the writer particularly known for writing depressing plays that carry heavy weight of authenticity and ruthless realities of this world. The only thing I believe could be better is Yasra Rizvi’s hair style..I’m tired of seeing her in this exacting single hair style and dull lipstick
Kids are the one who are completely lost now with no particular guideline and the only support in shape of mother who is not even educated enough to help them in shaping their future finely. But they are sensible enough to sacrifice their innocent wishes for their better future. Guddu was looking damn responsible while crossing the road, taking care of his sisters and mother. Loved it!
While watching this episode I sensed that other than minute matters, two major issues of Class differences and double standards of education in Pakistan were being highlighted by the team. Discrimination is basically the name of ‘imbalance’ in the smooth sailing of any society, which creates many problems particularly for downtrodden people. In Pakistan, discrimination has become a common evil that basically stems from this so-called class difference. Inequity has become a common trend in our society and exists in various forms. People who have established a high position in society by means of their wealth do not even have a single feeling of liking for those who are called ‘the poor’. All this is so disappointing and need to be solved by the government as soon as possible.
The squad has also done simply amazing! The director being Nadeem Siddique, produced by A&B Productions, and written by Kifayat Rodani, everyone had done magnificently. The cast includes Faisal Qureshi, Asma Abbas, Yasra Rizvi, Zuhab Khan, and others who portrayed each character very accurately. I love how the scenes are thorough but not dragged and the pace is very smooth as well. The dialogues are mind blowing at times and each character’s emotions are just what the doctor ordered.
So this is the time where Nasreen wants Fariha to go ahead with her life by saying “apna koi bandobast krlo..Kbtk bethi rahogi Raheel k naam ki bewa bn ky” and of course I’m expecting many twists and turns in the story further. I definitely recommend this play to all of you there with an alarming note since this is a must watch play with loads of tragic elements that compels you to keep your tissue box with you while watching it. Mann Ke Moti Episode 2 and 3: Review
Mann Ke Moti
Combined Review of Episode 2 and 3
Dukh hein choron jesay hoty band khirhki sy aey..!
Mann Ke Moti unquestionably leaves me in such a shock that I have to give myself a shake before writing review. Episode second started with Kids getting news of their father’s decision and Zara on the other hand gets some ground realities from her sister in terms of “agar khudanakhuasta kuch hogaya tou hamein un k bachon ki aah lgy ge”. I don’t know why but I feel rejection from Zara’s personality. She is surrounded with negative energy that she reveals through her behavior towards everybody. I remember her behavior with Guddu about toilet issue and I still remember her behavior towards Fariha and what she thinks about Raheel. Nasreen alerts Raheel and tries her best to persuade him about changing his decision but Raheel is clear to do so. Kids are trying to stop their father but fate has written something else in their lives. Second episode unveiled another shade of Nasreen’s character and I found her so caring and soft hearted person. While watching Mann Ke Moti, every time I came across the scenes where kids pack their bags early morning before going to school, I feel so annoyed that why don’t they pack before going to their bed? Fariha is no doubt a loving and caring mother but acha hota agr wo bachon ko sikhatin k bags raat ko pack kr k sona hai
We also got to know that Ahmed informs Raheel that he has to leave within three days and Family enjoys these days together as much as they could. Raheel brings gifts for everybody and wants to make most of these precious moments. He also makes Fariha understand that she will be taking care of his family in his absence and gives her a locket having their pictures locked in it. Fariha and Nasreen were in great pain and I could feel their pain right on their faces. Nasreen was epic in saying “Maa hun na..Dil sambhalny mein thorha waqt tou lgega!” The most heart wrenching moments of second episode were Good Bye moments where Faisal Qureshi and Yasra Rizvi demonstrated the message so well and made me reminded of Shelley’s saying “Unheard melodies are sweeter than heard ones” And here starts the journey of loneliness and tragedy!
Music has been part of every known human society. It has a significant effect on the human brain, both in terms of its development and the reactions it can elicit in people. Music is essentially a form of language that allows people to communicate with each other and share experiences. Music affects all of us in some way or the other. It also is the most common interest of many people. It can transport us to another time or place and it is a great feeling of seeing or doing or experiencing something different. Wait a minute.. Let me clear the reason why I’m so much concerned about music today is that the musical effects being portrayed in Mann Ke Moti’s third episode were so damn strong that I couldn’t stop myself. Kudos to the musician and editors for such an immense job!
Episode third started with Ahmed’s news that Raheel is in Iran now but they are having some difficulties and they need prayers. Fariha’s reaction over news was so natural and the way she locks the door and rushes towards Mother in law to deliver the news shows how much she cares for her and then there is somebody to share her happiness and pain. She takes care of Nasreen just like Raheel used to do by keeping water for her before going to sleep. Their conversation, their expressions, and the way the realization dawns on Zara and Nasreen was endearing at best.
Doing parental tasks and sharing the responsibilities requires certain skills. One has to take initiative and know all the needs of family. Fathers at home generally do things with equal efforts similar to their work. Its not just they take care about their kids but also their wives… that was all about Raheel’s love and care towards his family that made Fariha compel to substitute him. And then comes the news of Raheel’s death.. One of life’s most difficult challenges is facing death of a loved one. The time that immediately follows the death of a loved one can be very distressing. Bereavement is something that we all experience at some stage of our lives, but not often; therefore we do not get much opportunity to learn how to deal with it. Everybody reacts differently to the loss of someone close. Maulana Sahab was indeed a great support to Nasreen’s family after the news of Raheel’s death. His words “yeh dunya faani hai.. aur maut kisi bhi haal mein aani hy” are still echoing in my mind. The last option for everybody in this kind of situation is usually to pray “O God! Teach me to live without him/her” and that’s what Nasreen does.
The thing that I liked a lot in this serial is that strong family bonding is being shown at that moment when we need it the most. Leo Tolstoy exposed our common response on death of someone in his “The Death of Ivan IIyich” by saying “It is he who is dead, not I” And I was calm down to see the reaction of this family. That completely shows humanity is still alive.. Yes I am a lady of optimistic approach
After effects of Raheel’s death have been started now and Nasreen is back on her cruelty again. I hated her when she gave money to her own daughters for lunch but not to kids and I found it very strange why the hell Zara accepts this kind of behavior? What is the use of her being religious old lady? Hypocrisy is a sinful disease indeed. Gurhya steals money from Falak’s bag and brings bread and egg for her breakfast and Daadi jaan pays her back for this stupidity. So we now know that the bread earner is dead and family is facing the consequences’. Instead of protecting against these kinds of acts Kia he acha hota agr fariha bachon ko sabr aur bardasht krna sikha dein! I’m just waiting for that.
Coming to my favorite scene, well it is hard to decide one single scene from larger-than-life serial but scene where Fariha put off her bangles and cries was top notch. The scene where Guddu misses his father and cries while watching his picture was first-class too. In the morning when Fariha brings egg role for Guddu was heart touching positively! By the way I liked that “Murgha” too
brilliant direction and excellent cinematography.. What to say about dialogues jo already itny powerful hein k main apny ansuon py qaboo na rakh ski. Kifayat Rodani you rock!

Overall, this was a lovely episode with a blend of emotions, reflections and of course, a fine message for the audience to understand the uncertainty of life. The chemistry between all the characters has been excellent throughout but in this particular episode, it was perfect. Dialogue of the day was“Kamany wala mard hota hai….. Tou kia main bhi mar jaunga?” Once again, kudos to the entire team of Mann Ke Moti.. A&B Productions, Erum Binte Shahid, the cast, the technical team, everyone! Mann Ke Moti Episode Review 1
Mann Ke Moti
Review 1st
Sooraj Ki gathrhi kholay tou ander raat hai roti,
Hr ik dard ki kismat mein hai kb asaani hoti..!!
When I started watching Mann Ke Moti for review I just realized that I’ve watched a number of plays and reviewed so many episodes that unintentionally I’ve started integration and comparing characters and plots of different Pakistani plays. Promos of Mann Ke Moti reminded me of “Maye Ni”
On the serious note Original Sound Track of this play inclined me more than it’s visuals. Still a different story wraped up with childrens’ struggle that has never seen on television screens before.

While watching first episode of Mann Ke Moti I felt myself completely in trance of that completely other world. Nadeem Siddique, director of the serial says “mainy aik puri zindagi jee li is dramy ko krty hueay!” and after watching first episode I wholly agree with him. Kifayat Rodani holds ownership of expressing different emotions of masses in a very simple and ordinary way and that is what makes him special.
Episode started with fajr prayers scene and I was deeply engrossed in it. Everything was so clear in terms of introducing characters and plot development. I was surprised to see plot developing in first episode going with appropriate pace. We now know that Raheel is the onlybread earner and belongs to a middle class family and has four children. He lives with his widowed mother and two sisters and is responsible for their bread too after death of his father. He is shown as a responsible son, devoted father and loving husband. Yasra Rizvi is indeed perfect choice for her role as she keeps an expressive attitude and speaks via her eyes. So we also know that Saasu Maa is not happy with her daughter in law and leaves no choice in blaming her brought up too. I laughed where daadi jaan does not allow herself to depart her grand children with prayers and best wishes but for her own son and daughters she is so humble and caring.
Other than domestic issues presented in play few serious issues like poverty situation in our country and its impact on society, people going abroad in search of better future and increasing frustration among individuals are also shown. Poverty has been one of the biggest problems that Pakistan faces today. It is rightly said that poverty anywhere is a threat to prosperity everywhere. According to Homer, “This is misery! The last, the worst that man can feel”. Raheel decides to go abroad in search of better furure for his family because things are out of control for him now and he can’t see his family living life of under-rated people. Episode first ended with the scene where Raheel is trying to convince his mother and wife. It seems like his wife is going to agree soon but Ammi Jaan is not in a mood to allow him to do so. Asma Abbas is so perfect choice for this role and I like her performance particularly where she starts cursing her grand children and their mother and saying “sab sy km wazan saas bechari ka hota hai” Lol..
“Mann Ke Moti” is all about emotions and ground realities of life that we see around us everyday. This is the life we live and talk about. Children are focused more than anything else and Kudos to the writer , director and entire cast for bringing this script into life and for bringing the real actors from children. Zohaab is my most favorite among them and girl playing role of ‘Gurhya” is also worth noticing. In terms of direction, episode was superb. I have started a trip to Mann Ke Moti’s journey and first ride was intriguing and definitely I’m looking forward for more. Dialogue-wise it was as interesting as I enjoyed visuals. Background music was spot on and much appreciation to the editor too J Child starts all did a fairly good job and I must confess here that I’m a huge fan of Zohaab now. This anokha ladla must have a great role in the play and I wish Yasra Rizvi’s this Noor e Nazar keeps his impression on all of us. Dialogue of the day is “Jadu Nhe Hai Mery paas!” Certainly thought provoking one!
Preview of next episode suggests that children are trying to stop their father by proposing their small and innocent wishes. Let us just hope that Raheel may live with his family but again he is justified too. I’m feeling sympathy for Fariha as to whom she is going to get support now? And what about children will they be able to stop their father? Or they will have to bear Daadi’s curses again for a long time?
